One Bright Thing

Revisiting My Childhood

My joy for today came from the homework exercises based on suggestions by Artist’s Way author Julia Cameron.

One of the tasks was about revisiting my childhood room. Imagining my childhood home and all its details took me to a safe and sweet spot. First, the author had me pick my favorite thing in my room. Then, we focus on our current room. Do we like the way it is? If not, can we bring some of our favorite things from childhood into our existing room?

Ironically, my mermaid phonebook and my birthday calendar book from my childhood are also part of my current room’s bedside drawer.

I don’t know why I kept them for so long. They hold no valuable information. They represent a piece of my childhood and the nostalgia associated with it.

The following exercise was about picking five favorite childhood dishes. Can you buy one of them this week, the author says? My favorite five were noodles, Samosas, Khichdi (rice and lentils), Stir fry potatoes, and Indian street food (Chaat).

Although I have developed a fondness for Italian and Mexican cuisine over the years, these five dishes still hold a special place in my heart. So, unconsciously, I manage to eat at least one of them each week.

The fun ride to my childhood brightened my day today. Thank you, Julia Cameron.
