One Bright Thing

Nostalgic Days

Some days, you feel pain and pleasure at the same time. I lost power to part of the house yesterday. As inconvenient as it was, a ton of nostalgia was attached to this experience.

Using flashlights to navigate parts of the house that lost power took me back to my childhood days. Growing up in India, we lost power quite often in our homes. Sometimes it was just for a few minutes or other times for longer.

We had figured out our way around it, though. As a child, this was exciting. It meant stopping whatever we were doing and getting out to play. It meant conversing with neighbors who came out of their homes.

It was as if the universe had ordered a siesta for everyone. Losing power, and having the electrician come over, climb the roof, and fix the wires took me back home. Having activity around the house brings me joy, even when it causes slight inconvenience.
