One Bright Thing

Finding The Artist Child Within

The book Artist’s Way continues to bring me joy each week. One of the exercises in the book is to uncover parts of ourselves that we missed as a child. It’s a way to discover what we can do as adults and encourage the artist within us.

The exercise is to complete phrases like the below:

  1. As a kid, I missed the chance to ……..
  2. As a kid, I could have used …..
  3. As a kid, I dreamed of being ….
  4. As a kid, I wanted a …..
  5. For years, I have missed and wondered about …
  6. I am sorry that I will never again see …

My response to the above if you are curious:

  1. Learn Dance and Music
  2. My time wisely
  3. A Dancer, An Oceanographer
  4. A Barbie Doll
  5. Being good at Sports
  6. My grandparents

Exercises like the above help me reflect on some of my deepest desires and take steps toward accomplishing them if they still hold value.

I am not going to pursue becoming an oceanographer, but I can work toward becoming a certified scuba diver. The book has additional exercises like these that you should check out. I hope you continue to look for and find the artist within you.
