Doing Things You Like, Despite Your Mood
One thing that brought me joy today was being part of a webinar from my favorite author, Natalie Goldberg. Natalie wrote a book that is very dear to me, Writing Down The Bones.
One thing that stuck with me was what she said about establishing a writing practice. she asks us to write no matter the mood. You are miserable, you write. You are happy, you write.
This sentiment holds in so many things. I used to work out only during my happy days. Then I realized working out is vital to put me in a happy mood. So now, I run when I am happy, and I run when I am sad.
We don’t stop making dinner for our children because of a bad day. So why stop other things? The same holds for me for writing and meditating.
We do things because that’s who we are: a mother, a runner, a meditator, a writer, or something else. So we can’t let the weather or a bad situation affect it.
