One Bright Thing

A Special Treat Of Wisdom

Cooking is a stress relief for some people, but for me, it is stress-inducing. Not the weekend cooking when you want to make something you like, but the cooking you need to do even though you are exhausted. Every mom might be able to relate to this type of cooking.

I chose to listen to a podcast while cooking today to make it more joyous. This choice turned into a special treat. In the podcast ‘Karma, Consciousness, and Freedom,’ Tony Robbins interviewed the spiritual leader, Sadhguru.

One thing that struck me was the discussion about how people go to great lengths to be happy, peaceful, and loving just because it’s a good thing. Sadhguru talks about how people chasing happiness are stressed because they are trying to create a consequence.

You never try to create the fruit, he says. Instead, you nurture the root, and the fruit will come.

This thought applies to so much we do. We put more effort into anticipating and planning for the outcome than the actual work and its developmental process.

Whether personal development or acquiring a new skill at work, it is more about the result and the rewards. Most of our emphasis is on fruit instead of root.

This sentiment resonates with me on my path of personal and spiritual growth. It isn’t about results right now. It is about putting time into my transformation. I focus on the root, and the fruit (impact on the world) will follow.

Does it apply to what you are working on? Can you turn your attention inward?
