One Bright Thing

The Power of Self-Belief

April is National Poetry Month. I am generally not one to write poetry. But, sometimes, words just come to you. They are the best form of expressing emotion. So here is what I came up with for my son; it’s raw, it’s amateur, but it captures my feeling:

Someone may be better than you in sports,
While another is better at academics,
But to us, you are all we ever wanted,
The swimmer, the ball player, the writer, and the pianist.

So many skills you possess, yet you doubt,
refusing to believe in yourself,
There are plenty of folks to tell you where you fall short,
But one person who needs to believe in you is yourself.

For you will always be your biggest cheerleader,
It all starts with how you view yourself in the mirror
With a heart of gold and an unwavering will,
you can succeed in whatever you choose.

Forever a champion in our hearts,
you will shine bright whether it is arts or sports
Happy National Poetry Month, my dearest child,
Believe in yourself, and nothing else can stop you.
